When 2-G scam was exposed by CVC, it gave an amazing opportunity for BJP to regain its lost position. Congress before 2-G was looking invincible and it seemed there is nothing that can stop it from winning even the next general elections in 2014. But post 2-G exposé it seemed BJP had God send opportunity to put Congress on the mat. After 2-G there was a flood of exposés, be it Adarsh scam, CWG scam, S-Band scam, black money, etc. BJP had a great opportunity to go on offensive and start a nationwide stir against corruption of Congress. But instead of offensive they were put on defense by two Chief Ministers. BJP’s inability to take action against Karnataka and Uttarakhand Chief Ministers took away the opportunity from them. In politics opportunity lost, is lost forever. The fight against corruption has already been taken over by Anna Hazare and he has put both Congress and BJP on the mat. The fight against corruption which should have been the fight between opposition and ruling party has already been replaced by the fight between civil society and political parties. And in this both BJP and Congress are on the same side. So a powerful issue that was handed over to BJP by Congress has already lost its relevance for BJP. BJP needs to understand that today political situation is very fluid and it cannot expect to gain if it does not act fast and according to the wishes of people.
Most probably Lokpal bill will be passed and Anna Hazare along with civil society will take all the credit. Congress and BJP will be made out to be the joint loser in this fight. Congress will try to salvage its situation by giving Sonia Gandhi the credit for this lokpal bill. What a waste of opportunity? I am a supporter of BJP and it pains me a lot to see BJP in such shambles. It is a shame that in 2-G scam, Adarsh scam, CWG scam, S-band scam, etc. Congress has come out better than BJP. Congress has claimed that they have taken action (though people understand that these actions are nothing but bare minimum but BJP has failed to take these bare minimum actions). Come 2014 Congress will remove Manmohan Singh and replace him by Rahul Gandhi. They will put all the blames on Singh and paint pictures of change as they did by removing previous home minister. Rahul Gandhi will be there for less than one year making all the right noises.
Will Congress win or not will be decided by time? But I think Congress will be at a much better position than BJP on the issue of corruption.

Get out of denial mode
After UP elections I had written on my blog that BJP is making a huge mistake by taking the UP verdict lightly. No attempt was made to find out why BJP did so badly in the elections instead amusing excuses were given. One of the excuses was that people wanted to vote out Mulayam so even the die hard BJP supporter voted for Mayawati.
By saying so they willfully ignored the significance of this verdict. With the press of a button a baggage of thousand years was removed. It has been the rule that dalits vote for Brahmans to keep them in power not the other way round. Think about all the prejudice that have to be overcome. To explain this paradigm shift BJP leaders gave a self-fooling explanation. If Brahmans had voted for BSP than it was not just that they wanted to vote out Mulayam but something else. I think it was because of lack of alternative. I think Brahmans have left BJP for good and lot of work is needed to be done to find out why? Brahmans were angry with BJP and they did not see any other viable alternative so they voted for BSP. But during these LS elections they saw a resurgent congress. They could feel that a chunk of Muslim vote was shifting towards it so the congress became that alternative that they were looking for. I feel that this Brahman vote will consolidate further with Congress and more Muslims will join it and Congress might emerge the single largest party in next UP assembly elections with BSP coming close second.
The BJP will get marginalized and might come distant fourth in that elections. As far as SP is concerned lot has been said in the media about Muslims deserting SP because of Kalyan Singh. I don't agree with this. Last time when Kalyan Singh had joined Mulayam, the latter had kept a comfortable distance from him. But this time there was no such prudence. On the contrary Kalyan Singh openly campaigned for SP. Mulayam is a very experienced and cunning politician he would not make that mistake. He might take tactical help from Kalyan but will not risk his biggest support group(after Yadavs) for him. I have a hunch that Mulayam already knew that Muslims are drifting away from him and Kalyan was brought to compensate those drifters with the lodh votes. It is due to this vote bank SP was able to prevent a disaster. Actually SP did pretty well and ended up being single largest party.
The reason why I am writing in this forum is not to dishearten supporters of BJP, for I am one of them, but to shake the party out of denial mood. The same foolish excuses are being forwarded again. Some of the excuses are that people voted for national parties or people voted for stability and thought UPA can provide that or caste is increasingly becoming meaningless. I do not think any of this is correct.
How can you explain that Mayawati got highest percentage of vote in UP followed by SP, both thrives on caste based politics. RJD was only 5% behind JD(U). BSP and SP have retained their caste based vote bank the only votes that seems to have shifted are that of Muslims, upper caste and urban voters and all these have shifted towards congress. I agree with Mr Jashwant Singh that an honest introspection is needed.
The biggest problem with BJP today is that no one seems to have any authority. There are three ways of effectively running the party, as far as I can think. 1st and the worst form is hierarchical where only one family has right to lead congress is the most appropriate example of this form of leadership. The 2nd is a dictatorial type where one person has dictatorial power and decides every thing for the party, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati, Lalu Yadav represent this type of leadership. The 3rd and the best form is the democratic party where the leader of party is selected by the party workers verdict. In all these form there is a leader who can take decision and his decisions are respected by everyone. Unfortunately, BJP represent none of these systems. It is democratic enough to allow top leaders to question and fight among themselves but there is no democracy in selection of these big leaders. Most of the BJP’s top leadership is miles away from common man and common party worker. These leaders are not elected by workers so they are not answerable to them. A democratically elected leader commands authority but because there is no real democracy so no one commands that authority. That’s why we have so many leaders fighting among themselves and working as individuals and fulfilling their own individual ambitions.
I hope BJP will wake up from this denial mode and do what should be done to make it a party with a difference and not the party with lot of differences.

Khanduri has been made the scapegoat
BJP?? What do you say about BJP?? It seems to be headed towards self destruction. There is a need of honest introspect which these people would never do. All they are looking for are the scapegoats. It is unfortunate that our main opposition party is such a spineless, undemocratic and fickle minded.
I am a resident of Dehradun and up till now was a BJP supporter, though I voted for Congress in this elections. But I did so because Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul inspired me more than Advani, Rajnath and Arun Jaitley. I voted for the central government and not against state government. If anyone has to go it should be Rajnath Singh and Advani and not Khanduri. But it is easier to point finger on someone else than on yourself. I had always supported BJP for its stand on uniform civil code and article 370, BJP under Vajpayee was a confident, self-assured and forward looking party but today’s BJP is a fickle minded, divided and backward looking party.
There is no policy of introspection within BJP; none was done after UP assembly debacle. I would like to raise one question here-: Why has BJP steadily lost ground in UP with the rise of Rajnath Singh? BJP was the single largest party in UP when he was made the CM of UP; it came second in the next assembly elections. He was made cabinet minister under Vajpayee; BJP came third in next Parliament elections. He was made president of party; BJP came third in assembly elections with a further decrease in vote percentage. He remained the party president; BJP came fourth in the just concluded parliament elections. Some serious thought has to be given on this. Is it because he stifles in internal democracy within party(as was the case in Uttarakhand where majority of MLAs supported Khanduri) or is it because of lack of leadership quality?
This election was fought on the plank of strong leadership and decisive government. How can you prove strong leadership if you kneel down in front of protest by some sadhus and sants? Madan Kaushik was replaced by much weaker SWAMI YATINDRANAND GIRI. This flip flop sent a very wrong message throughout Uttarakhand. Moreover, BJP which was once opposed to nepotism showed that same favouritism by giving ticket to inexperienced Rajnath Singh’s relative, Jaspal Rana, over a much stronger candidate. Jaspal Rana showed his in-experienced when he called Congress candidate, son of legendary HN Bahuguna who belongs to Pauri district, an outsider. About half of the population in Dehradun comes from Pauri and it should be noted that BJP did not win a single assembly seat from DDun in this parliamentary elections. Moreover, it caused trouble in the neighbouring Pauri seat also.
It is sad that arguably the most honest politician of current India had to pay the price of the mistakes of others. It is even more unfortunate that the most honest leader has been replaced by the most corrupt leader in Uttarakhand(for confirmation all you need to do is talk to common people in hills of Garhwal).
Advani’s resignation was a step in right direction and it was correct to persuade him not to step down as it would have led to further complications. But Rajnath should have resigned before excepting someone else resignation for he is far more responsible for the defeat than many other smaller leaders
I am very angry with the media for not taking up Khanduri’s case. I agree that Uttarakhand is a very small state but what happened here has a very big significance. The happenings of Uttarakhand represent victory of corrupt over honest politics.

India’s fight against terrorism
Another attack on India. Mumbai is bleeding again. How many more attacks, how many more corpses, how many more sacrifices will it take for our leaders to act? I am fed up; I am fed up with this government, all politicians irrespective of their party. Something needs to change and it is not politicians but us who have to do this. Mumbai attack has shown the exemplary valour of our soldiers, our police and ordinary people. The only cowards in India seem to be our great leaders who are hiding in their safe haven in Delhi. The leadership has failed and has failed again and again. Are we soft state? Yes we are and here I would like to compare the speeches of Mr. Bush after 9/11 and our own PM, Foreign minister and the Home minister.
“Good evening. Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts.” were the opening remarks of Bush.
“The dastardly terror attacks that took place in Mumbai last night and today leading to the loss of many precious lives and injuries to many others have deeply shocked the nation.” were our PM’s word.
Let’s compare these opening remarks. The opening remarks of Bush made it clear that it was just not any other attack but an attack on everything US stands for-: its citizens, its way of life and its very freedom while our PM called it just a dastardly terror attack. These opening remarks show he difference in the determination.
“These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve…. Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature. And we responded with the best of America -- with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could,” were the inspiring words of Mr Bush. I could not find anything inspiring in our PMs speech.
“We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them,” was clear warning to anyone who was harbouring terrorists.
“We will take up strongly with our neighbours that the use of their territory for launching attacks on us will not be tolerated, and that there would be a cost if suitable measures are not taken by them.” Take up? What you mean by take up. You are taking up this thing for last 30-35yrs.
“we're going to find those evil-doers, those barbaric people who attacked our country and we're going to hold them accountable and we're going to hold the people who house them accountable. The people who think they can provide them safe havens will be held accountable. The people who feed them will be held accountable. And the Taliban must take my statement seriously.” What warning are we giving to Pakistan?
Why should every time it is India’s responsibility to avoid conflict and reduce tension? Why our leaders are afraid of escalating tension? War is already there, we are bleeding everyday. The only anomaly is that only one side is bleeding right now. I am not ready to bleed hundred of times I am ready to take a hit but I also want to hit back. Our armed forces have shown their ability again and again. I am sure they are capable of punishing Pakistan to such an extend that they would not dare to repeat this dastardly act. But our leaders are coward they are afraid that the any conflict can escalate. We are a nuclear weapon state as Pakistan is. If Kargil did not escalate why should an attack by India. Pakistan works with an assumption that whatever it does will not be retaliated by India because international community would come in to diffuse the tension. They know whoever will act swiftly and decisively will get the advantage. Now it’s India’s turn we should act swiftly and decisively. We should take the punitive action; we should hit them fast and hard.
Pakistan Foreign minister has promised all help in the investigation. He has also proposed to form a hot line between head of intelligence of two countries. But first let them give us 20 most wanted terrorists that have found safe haven in Pakistan. No matter what Pakistan promises unless they will give us terrorists like Maulana masood and Dawood Ibrahim we will not consider them our friends. It is time now for Pakistan to take steps to diffuse tensions.
What kind of Democracy are we living in? The most hated home minister is still there in his office just because of one woman. I will never be able to forget that video where our home minister was clearly more concerned about his spotless attire than the people who were battling for their life because he failed to do his job.
None of us is perfect but we learn from our past mistakes. We learn and we do not make those mistakes again. But we seem to be repeating them every time. Let’s look at the common things in most of the terrorist attacks. Most of the attacks that are happening in India are serial attacks and there is about 30mins to 1hr or more between first incident and the last. Why don’t we have a system with the help of which we can warn all the public place in a city if an incident take place any where in a city. Why can’t we have an announcement system which could announce about an incident immediately asking people to leave the market leaving their vehicles behind and stay out till police have checked out everything? Militants are also attacking the hospital nearest to the place where first attack has taken place. Are we taking this thing into consideration? Why don’t we have a NSG type force in all the state capitals and large cities? How much will it cost? We can spend millions to protect our useless leaders why can’t we spend few more to protect people who choose them? And one question I want to ask our leaders why doesn’t the most elite force of our country have night vision goggles?
Atrocities have been inflicted on our fellow citizens. Today we will mourn the deaths but tomorrow we should avenge them.
There is no issue bigger than security so today I take a pledge I would vote for anyone who will promise to punish those 20 terrorists even if that means a war with Pakistan or I would not vote at all.

These opening remarks show the difference in the determination of the two leaders.
“We will take up strongly with our neighbours that the use of their territory for launching attacks on us will not be tolerated” Take up?
But our leaders are coward they are afraid that the conflict may escalate. after all we both are nuclear weapon state . If Kargil did not escalate into a war why should should a punitive strike by India escalate.
"You are with us or against us" was what Mr. Bush said to Pakistan president, it is time for India to tell them so.

Weak government and death of citizens
UPA government has failed to proect the people. Major attacks are happening throughout the country and our government seems to have no plan of action to counter it. After every attack there is a talk of punishing the terrorists and doing everything that is possible to avoid the repeat. But it seems UPA government seems to be out of idea. The most important responsibility of a government is to protect citizens. Our ain and present UPA government has again and again failed to do so. Terrorists seems to be fearless and stricking at will while our investigating agency are wasting their energy on trying to proove a non existence hindu terrorism. The government has failed and it has no right to continue. Government has blamed Hindu orgnisation for terrorism and have accused the hindu samaj for protecting the terrorists and it claims that it is acting tough on terrorism but what at action are they taking on more than 2.5crores illegal Bangladeshis that have become such a big threat to our national security. What action have they taken against 1000s of madrassas that have opened in border areas who are mind washing the young brains against India. It is the government whose supporters have questioned the martyrdom of our brave soldiers for some votes. Who Sarkaar jisme apne shaheedoan ki ijjaat na ho, jis mai apne shantoan ko apmanit kiya jata ho aur jis sarkaar mai desh ke thukde kerne ki koshish kerne waloan ko bachaya jata ho us Sarkaar ko hatana padega. We Indians have fought elections by dividing people in the name of religion, in the name of caste, in the name of region but now will we divide people in the name of our nation. Attacks after attacks are happening and we seem to be doing nothing. People are dying and all we seem to get is petty politics.
It is time to act tough. Why should onus of ensuring peace be with us? What is Pakistan doing to avoid conflict? Pakistan Foreign minister has promised all help in the investigation. He has also proposed to form a hot line between head of intelligence of two countries. But first let them give us 20 most wanted terrorists that have found safe haven in Pakistan. No matter what Pakistan promises unless they will give us terrorists like Maulana masood and Dawood Ibrahim we will not consider them our friends.
